1950s

Catching up on the News

Reading Daily HeraldFor reasons too numerous for me to list here, The Daily Herald newspaper holds a lot of meaning and historical interest for me. So I was chuffed to find this copy this morning in an antique shop in Bridge Road, adjacent to Hampton Court station, published 12th February 1952 and reporting the funeral of King George VI.  Just as 1936 was famously “the year of the three kings” so 1952 might be thought as “the year of the three Queens”.

Note to myself: write further blog piece on the history of The Daily Herald.
