Rise Up, Women! … a coda

I’m unsure what specifically, following our recent workshop series and commemorative event at Brompton Cemetery, would have brought to mind, as a coda, the following song. Maybe the fact that I was also recently thinking I should write a future piece on Anglo-Irish absurdist humour from Laurence Sterne (1713-1768), onwards through Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) and Edward Lear (1812-1888), to Spike Milligan, Bruce Lacey, Ivor Cutler, and Vivian Stanshall, inter alia in modern times.  But for the present, this gem from the pen of Ivor Cutler, featuring the hugely talented Linda Hirst whose CV also includes recordings with the Swingle Singers, Pink Floyd, György Ligeti, Hans Werner Henze, John Cage and Helmut Lachenmann; and who is now head of Vocal Studies at Trinity Laban Conservertoire of Music and Dance in Greenwich.
