Song of the Week: Nat Shilkret, You Were Meant for Me

I really couldn’t say what brought the song to mind, but it’s been buzzing through my head much of this afternoon so I figured I had to share it with you. This 1929 song, with music by Nacio Herb Brown and lyrics by Arthur Freed, has been recorded so many time that frankly I cannot recall at all what version I first heard when I was a kid. Always loved the song, anyway.

The recording is by Nat Shilkret, one of the most prolific recording artists of the 1920s and 1930s.
