Did the Edwardians love their food and drink? You bet they did! Inspired by the life of London cook Mary Ann Juden (featured on the CD cover), and her handwritten recipes, The Edwardian Kitchen is a 21-track compilation of restored original recordings of songs about food and drink by some of the greatest stars of the Edwardian Music Hall, including Florrie Forde, Harry Champion, Gus Elen, and Sir Harry Lauder. Interleaved with the songs are fascinating spoken word readings from Cassell’s New Universal Cookery Book (1894) including ‘The Management & Duties Of Servants’, ‘The Duties of a Cook’, and a recipe for Harry Champion’s famous ‘Boiled Beef & Carrots’.
